2002 District 8 Interlock League Rules

(Langley, Mission, Abbotsford, Chilliwack and Hope)

COACHES ARE NOT PERMITTED TO ADD NEW PLAYERS TO THEIR TEAM WITHOUT CONSENT FROM THEIR COORDINATOR.

CASA and BCASA and League Rules:

1 Five (5) runs per inning except 7th inning which is open.

2 Time limit on all games, no new inning to start after (1 hour and 30 minutes), the inning to be completed.

3 Game start times are 6:30 pm, except for Mission Fairgrounds A, Abbotsford Ag/Rec 2 & 3, Mill Lake and Chilliwack’s Townsend Park, where some games will be scheduled for 8:30 pm.

4 Fifteen minute "grace period" for game start times.

5 Game postponement notice for other than weather reasons to be at least 24 hours prior to start time. If a rainout, the home team coach to call visitors.

6 Teams must have at least 8 players to start and continue the game, zero or more players may enter the game if/when they arrive. If a team has only 8 players, the 9th batting position is not an automatic out.

7 The re-entry rule is waived, all players bat.

8 No limitation on the number of innings a pitcher may pitch during a game.

9 Home team is to provide 2 umpires.

10 Run mercy rule after 5 innings.

Bantam Girls and Boys Division Rules

COACHES ARE NOT PERMITTED TO ADD NEW PLAYERS TO THEIR TEAM WITHOUT CONSENT FROM THEIR COORDINATOR.

1 Game nights are Tuesdays and Thursdays. Games start at 6:30 pm sharp. No new inning is to start after 8:15 pm.

2 Teams must have a minimum of 8 players to start or continue the game, with the 9th missing player in the batting order, NOT an automatic out. If/when they arrive, the 9th or more players simply enter the game at the bottom of the batting order.

3 Even if the game result is known (i.e. the last batting team can’t catch up, or has already won) finish the inning, if still light enough, to give each team equal playing time.

4 Seven innings constitute a full game. A regulation game must be at least 4 complete innings OR 3½ innings if the home team is winning. If a regulation game cannot be completed, due to rain or other factors, the game must be replayed in its entirety.

5 It is the responsibility of the home team to arrange, by mutual agreement, to make up rainouts and replays. If no effort or agreement is made by one of the teams, they will then lose by default.

6 It is the responsibility of the winning coach to phone their Division Coordinator with the game results by 9:00 pm each Thursday. (Coordinators must have the weekly scores into the Publicity Director no later than Friday evenings).

7 An inning is over when there are 3 out OR upon the scoring of the 5th run. Maximum of 5 runs per inning, except 7th inning which is an open inning.

8 Nine players on the playing field, with unlimited substitutions.

9 Each player is listed on the batting order and all players will bat.

10 ANYONE warming up a pitcher MUST wear a helmet, mask and throat protector.

11 Pitcher shall not be permitted to wear a white sleeve nor anything else on the pitching arm.

12 Helmets must be worn with chin straps fastened while on deck, at bat, and running the bases.

13 All catchers MUST wear all protective equipment (mask, helmet, throat protector, chest protector, shin guards and athletic support cup).

14 Shirts are to be tucked inside the pants and are to be kept tucked in. Failure to do so could result in the removal of the player from the game.

15 Only issued caps are to be worn and are mandatory for all boys, but is optional for girls.

16 NO JEWELRY (as stated, and signed, on Registration form). The only exception is Medic Alert bracelets or chains.

17 "Dropped third strike" rule applies.

18 "Infield Fly" rule is in effect in all divisions.

19 Only teams willing to proceed further and continue all the way to the Provincial Championships (if they keep winning) will be permitted to enter the local playoffs, which lead to the District playoffs. These are not to be viewed as free or practice games and it is important to have a parent and player commitment as they are played during the summer vacation from school.

20 League will supply a plate umpire, but if unable to, it is the responsibility of the home team to fill the position. Visiting team may supply a base umpire if none supplied by the league.

21 Coaches should ensure that they have a mask with throat protector for the umpire in the equipment bag, and make sure they get them back at the end of the game.

22 ALL GAME CANCELLATIONS AND POSTPONEMENTS, other than for weather, must be relayed to the Umpire-in-Chief with a minimum of 24 hours notice to game time.

23 Ball size is 12 inches.

Pitching distance is 40 feet for girls and 42 feet for boys.

Base distance is 60 feet.

Pee Wee Girls and Boys Division Rules

Mite Girls and Boys Division Rules - 2002

General Information:

COACHES ARE NOT PERMITTED TO ADD NEW PLAYERS TO THEIR TEAM WITHOUT CONSENT FROM THEIR COORDINATOR.

A Game nights are Tuesdays and Thursdays.

B Games start at 6:30 pm sharp. No new inning is to start after 8:15 pm. If the game result is known (i.e. the last batting team can’t catch up, or has already won) finish the inning in order to give each team equal playing time.

C Complete game - is 5 innings. 3 innings must be completed before the game result can count. If 3 innings cannot be completed (due to rain or other factors) the game must be replayed in its entirety.

D Game results - it is the responsibility of the winning coach to phone their Division coordinator with the game results before 9:00 pm Thursdays. (Coordinators must have the weekly scores into the Publicity Director no later than Friday evenings).

E Rainouts and Replays - it is the responsibility of the Home team coach to arrange, by mutual agreement, to make up rainouts and replays within 10 day prior to the end of the season. If no effort or agreement is made, the Visiting team will win by default. A tie will be called if there is no effort or agreement made by either home or visiting coach.

Playing Rules: (that pertain to this division)

1 MUST use a "friendly pitcher" (coach, parent, adult) for one rotation of the roster of players for that game. Use a Mite pitcher for the rest of the game. (When 1st batter comes to bat for second time, Mite pitcher is now in effect). This is in effect for the entire season. Friendly pitcher should wear a ball glove for self protection.

2 ONLY when using a "FRIENDLY PITCHER" do the following rules apply:

(At all other times the game is to be played by Softball BC rules)

- The fielding team will place a player near the pitching position who will field any

ball hit near the pitching area and catch all throws from the catcher and give the ball to the friendly pitcher.

- There are NO WALKS, although the umpire will call balls so that players will come to recognize them.

- A batter can STRIKE OUT (3 strikes) as in regular softball.

- Base runners can advance ONLY as the result of a BATTED ball. There is NO BASE STEALING.

- Interference with the batted ball by the friendly pitcher will result in "no pitch" being declared, and the batter goes up again with the same number of strikes as before the pitch. The friendly pitcher must not touch the ball until it is handed to him/her.

3 An inning is over when there are 3 outs, or upon the scoring of the 5th run.

4 Every player must INFIELD a minimum of 2 innings per game. Every player is listed on the batting order and all players bat, even if they are not currently fielding.

5 Use 10 players in the field, with the extra player in the OUTFIELD. The number of fielders in the infield is restricted to 6 (catcher, pitcher, 1st, 2nd, shortstop, 3rd ).

6 Substitutions are unlimited, except for the pitcher, who may not pitch more than 3 innings in a game. Remember that any part or portion of an inning played by the pitcher counts as a full inning.

7 Safety Equipment/Rules (Softball BC):

- Helmets must be worn with chin straps fastened while on deck, up to bat, and running the bases.

- Catchers must wear all protective equipment (mask, helmet, throat protector, chest protector, shin guards) whenever receiving a pitch.

- Umpires must wear mask/throat protectors.

- Once the pregame conference has taken place anyone warming up the pitcher must wear

helmet/mask/throat protector.

- Failure to not wear this protective gear may void any insurance coverage.

- Long pants must be worn at games and practices (no shorts).

- At games, shirts must be tucked in and kept tucked in or removal from the game may result.( of the player - not the shirt)

- Caps, visors, headbands are optional for girls but, it is mandatory for boys to wear caps. - NO JEWELRY (as stated, and signed, on Registration form). The only exception is a Medic Alert tag (bracelet). And, the pitcher cannot wear this bracelet on his/her pitching arm.

- Metal and hard plastic cleats may NOT be worn. Running shoes or turf shoes are acceptable.

8 Ball size is 11 inch. Pitching distance is 30 feet (boys) and 28 feet (girls). Base distance is 45 feet.

9 ALL coaches are to carry a copy of the rules pertaining to their division to let umpire read before the game begins. Parent Umpires will memorize rules and there will be spot tests.

10 Coaches should ensure that they have mask/throat protectors and counter for their umpire, and make sure they get these items back at the end of the game.

Mini Mite Division Rules - 2002

General Information:

COACHES ARE NOT PERMITTED TO ADD NEW PLAYERS TO THEIR TEAM WITHOUT CONSENT FROM THEIR COORDINATOR.

A Game nights are Mondays and Wednesdays.


B Games start at 6:30 pm sharp. No new inning is to start after 8:00 pm. Do not end the game in the middle of an inning. Finish the last inning started to give each team equal playing time.

C Rainouts and replays are the responsibility of the home team to arrange, by mutual agreement, to make up these games prior to the end of the season.

D Home plate umpire is supplied by HOME team.

Base umpire is supplied by VISITING team.

10 Every player plays in the field, but the number of infielders is restricted to 6 (catcher, pitcher’s helper, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and shortstop). The remaining players play in the outfield.
