COACHING
Behind every great team is a great coach. Coaches are more than just the people who set lineups or run practices — they are mentors, role models, and leaders who help shape a player’s experience both on and off the field. A positive coach can spark a lifelong love for the game, build confidence, and create a team environment where every player feels valued and supported.

At CMFA, we’re always looking for committed volunteers who are excited to share their passion for softball. Whether you’re a seasoned ball player or brand new to the sport, your role as a coach is vital in helping athletes develop strong skills, teamwork, and resilience. With the right guidance, you have the opportunity to inspire the next generation of players and make a lasting impact on their lives.

This season, coaches will be supported by our Mentor Coaching Program, which provides tools, practice plans, and ongoing guidance to help you feel confident in leading your team. You don’t need to have all the answers — we’ll give you the resources and support you need to focus on what matters most: creating a fun, safe, and developmental environment for your athletes.

HOW TO BECOME A COACH

Getting started as a coach with CMFA is simple, and we’ll guide you every step of the way. Here’s what you need to do:

1. Get Your NCCP Number
Softball BC requires all coaches to have an NCCP #. If you don’t already have one, visit the Coaching Association of Canada to create a profile. Once complete, you’ll be assigned your NCCP number.
2. Register with CMFA
Head to our CMFA Registration Page and:
-
Create a profile (if you don’t already have one).
-
Sign up under Coach/Staff Registration.
-
Select your name from your family profile and choose the age group you’d like to coach.
-
Indicate whether you’d like to be a Head Coach or Assistant Coach.
-
Click the Coach Registration package at the bottom of the page and submit your request.

3. Criminal Record Check
All CMFA coaches and volunteers must complete a Criminal Record Check before stepping on the field. Please complete this as soon as possible using this link and the CMFA access code: GJBF96AWF5.

4. Complete Coaching Foundations
Softball BC also requires that all coaches complete Foundations of Coaching Part 1 & Part 2. These online courses take about 2 hours each, cost $10–15, and can be found in The Locker.

5. Get Support
Once you’re registered, you’ll be connected with our Mentor Coaching Program, giving you access to practice plans, resources, and guidance throughout the season.
